UusiFantasia
Uusi Fantasia is one of the most distinctive and hardest-to-define cult bands in Finnish indie music – a group that seamlessly, boldly, and playfully blends elements of electronic music, jazz, funk, Finnish schlager, pop, underground, and dub. The band released its first single and debut album Top Ten (2004) under the Norwegian label and was part of the global indie-electronica wave of the early 2000s, alongside acts like Röyksopp. In its early years, Uusi Fantasia also served as the backing band for Kings of Convenience’s Erlend Øye’s solo project.
The group consists of DJPP (Street Kobra), Vilunki 3000 (Kroko-Roc), and Ercola. DJPP is a longtime producer and DJ, known for founding Etenee Records and writing songs for JVG and many other major Finnish rap and pop artists. Vilunki 3000 is a musician, producer, and award-winning graphic designer who has been part of Larry and the Lefthanded, Op:l Bastards, and Barefoot Brothers. His unmistakable style and experimental approach have made him a cult figure in Finnish alternative music. Ercola ( is a veteran of electronic music, having collaborated with international artists such as Annie, Jori Hulkkonen, and Karri Koira.
Uusi Fantasia is an ever-evolving and constantly reinventing phenomenon, much like Barbapapa – always shifting shapes but staying unmistakably itself. Over the years, the band has worked with a wide range of musicians and vocalists, including Asa, Paula Vesala, Olli Ahvenlahti, Jimi Tenor, Antti Autio, Teppo Mäkynen, and many others.
Between long release breaks and its growing cult reputation, Uusi Fantasia always returns renewed. In 2023, after more than a decade-long hiatus, the band made a comeback and is now active once again – continuing to captivate new generations just as effortlessly as before.
