In the early 2000s, The Five Corners Quintet did something remarkable: they brought jazz back to the dance floor. Composer and producer Tuomas Kallio – also the founder of Flow Festival – and DJ Antti Eerikäinen began the project by sampling 1960s jazz records, aiming to create something that sounded classic but could still light up a club. Soon, they launched Ricky-Tick Records and formed a band that would spark a new wave of Finnish jazz.

The group’s debut album Chasin’ The Jazz Gone By, published in 2005, sold over 50,000 copies and propelled The Five Corners Quintet onto the international stage. They became club favorites across Europe, the U.S., and especially Japan. Gilles Peterson played them on the BBC, jazz icon Mark Murphy sang on the record, and the band performed at venues like Lincoln Center (NYC), Roskilde, North Sea Jazz, Popkomm, Pori Jazz – and every year from 2004 to 2008 at Flow Festival.

The lineup – Jukka Eskola, Timo Lassy, Mikael Jakobsson, Antti Lötjönen, and drummer/producer/composer Teppo Mäkynen – have each gone on to become leading figures in the Finnish jazz scene.

In 2025, The Five Corners Quintet return to celebrate the 20th anniversary of their iconic debut – with updated versions, honoring the original spirit.
