Hermeto Pascoal is a true icon of Brazilian music and a global master of sonic imagination. Born in 1936 in Alagoas, Brazil, the multi-instrumentalist is known for his boundless creativity, drawing inspiration from the sounds of nature and transforming anything – bubbling water, human speech, urban noise – into music.
Pascoal gained international recognition through his contribution to Miles Davis’ album Live-Evil published in 1971, which features three of his compositions. Since then, he has released over 30 albums and composed more than 10,000 works, freely blending jazz, forró, classical structures, and improvisation into a genre-defying sound.
He has collaborated with groups like Brazilian Octopus and Quarteto Novo, won two Latin Grammy Awards, and received honorary doctorates from institutions including Juilliard and the New England Conservatory. Known for his dazzling live performances, Hermeto Pascoal continues to push musical boundaries with infectious energy and deep artistry.
