JoukoLehtolaLegacy

Jouko Lehtola is one of the most beloved Finnish documentary photographers, and his life’s work will live on forever. Lehtola is particularly known for his photo series of Finnish youth, youth culture, and social issues. He was interested in people who were marginalised and the reality of the fringes of society. Lehtola’s accepting approach to photography strengthened and supported the identity of young people, trendsetters, and underdogs, and made them visible. His photographs portray young people, transgender people, sex workers, crashed cars, insatiable festival-goers, and loving swans.

The Legacy exhibition is a collection curated by stylist Minttu Vesala, featuring Lehtola’s photographs from various series shot over the years, such as Young Heroes, Urban Youth, and other less known series. In Lehtola’s photography, empathy for people, objects, and spaces reveal to the very stripped down and essential, everyday magic.

The Jouko Lehtola Foundation is organising a sales exhibition at the Make Your Mark gallery in conjunction with Flow Festival and launching the first ever Jouko Lehtola collection. The collection includes a selection of deliberately produced t-shirts, scarves, and high quality posters. The collection is curated by Vesala, who befriended Lehtola and collaborated with him on several photo series. A selection of works printed by Lehtola himself will also be on display.
